Plastic fabrication has been at the heart of the sign industry for decades. Internally illuminated lightboxes, letters and displays use acrylic in it's various forms and colours. Acrylic and the more recently introduced modified-acrylic have dominated the industry for four principal reasons:

1) Acrylic possesses the rigidity essential for sign use.

2) Acrylic's uniform composition and glass-like sheen are well-suited for light transmission and color rendition.

3) Acrylic resists fading and general discoloration.

4) Standard acrylic is the most economical of the rigid sign plastics.
